Your weight struggles can be related as much to your stress level while eating, speed of eating and even timing of eating as it is to what you are eating! Here are a few steps to help you lower stress, cortisol and weight!
First, envision meal time as your relaxation time. Nice music, candles, fun and enjoyable family time, whatever you decide what that would need to be. Second, slow down and take your time at meals. Quickly shoveling food in and eating too much before you've had a chance to think about it will actually cause a stress response in your body, raising cortisol levels, interrupting digestion and increasing weight around the middle. If you take ten minutes for breakfast make the changes to take twenty minutes, same for lunch and dinner. Third and lastly, timing of eating is essential. NEVER EVER skip breakfast! When you skip that first meal you're telling your body to hold onto the fat, "Because body, there's gonna be a long hungry day ahead". Not to mention signaling your thyroid to sloooow down for the day.
At lunch slow down and enjoy, your metabolism is at it's peek around 12 noon to 1:30 PM. The same time of day the sun is at it's highest point. There is a reason for this! Lunch should be your longest and largest meal of the day, but still a moderate portion, remember no gorging! After lunch time our bodies start to take a dip in metabolism, until about 5:30-6:30 PM when our bodies get a sliiiight raise in metabolism, then it heads back down hill again to prepare you for sleep.
Dinner should again be moderate to small. Keeping dinner super simple is best, such a soups and salads. We generally don't work hard at bed time, our day is slowing down so you definitely don't need as much food for energy. Going to bed on a full stomach not only lets the food sit in your gut for hours, but that food sitting like a rock in your tummy slows down the bodies repair signals and that includes valuable muscle building, and fat burning. Yes, you lose weight at night time, even with out expensive fancy weight loss methods!
